Bangkok Day 4 (07.06.2012): Early start today with a taxi to the train station and a long train ride to Ayutthaya - the historical capital of Bangkok. After a rather uncomfortable 2 hour train ride in 3rd class with hard seats and no air-con (but costing only 20 Baht i.e. less than 50p) we finally arrived. We located our transport for the day.. Bicycles!! We then struggled with getting said bicycles on a mini ferry/boat to the island of Ayutthaya. Next began a day of cycling through the temple ruins. What an amazing day and what an amazing place. Please check out the photos.
Our bikes cost 30 Baht for the day (50 Baht is £1.00), they had no gears but we loved them. We spotted the elephants today.. these can be hired to walk around the temples on. Saw an accident where someone fell off though - Mr G to the rescue!
We drank more water than you can imagine today.. It was sooo hot. Factor 50 sun cream was a must. We ate our most expensive meal so far in Thailand and I had my Pad Thai number 3. Now feeling all noodled out.
The trains do not seem to run to any sort of schedule and we were so shocked by the safety. Dogs and children just wandering over the train lines..
After finally catching a train back we showered before heading out to Khao San for food and beers. We were so unbelievably covered in dust - what a great expedition.
