Bangkok Day 2 (05.06.2012)
It's 1am and we are due an early start tomorrow. After having spent an hour uploading photos I am way too tired to blog. Today was a day for temples.. I applaud anyone who gets through the photos. We have been rather click happy today.
First stop Khao San Road for breakfast omelettes with rice.. then a stroll to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). Dressed in long sleeved and long legged clothes (aka pyjamas in Mike's case - Thai temple etiquette) in 34 degree heat it wasn't long before we wilted.. The temple complex is out of this world and a must see. The colours and the detail are amazing.
Next stop was a stroll around the corner to Wat Pho, home to the 46m long and 15m high reclining Buddha.. it really is huge! After grabbing a quick coconut milk, watermelon and spring roll lunch we headed for a boat over the Mae Nam river to Wat Arun a precursor to the modern skyscraper. We climbed some of the scariest steps ever and I doubted if I would ever make it down alive.. Alas we survived. We then caught the Phraya express boat back up to the Khao San area and headed to a market before chilling in the hostel.
Just returned from having the most delicious Pad Thai Noodles (street food, costing approx. 60p) and having made a few market stall purchases we are now calling it a night… All Wat'ed out now so temples are off the agenda for tomorrow.
We also found out tonight that the Chiang beer we have been drinking is 6.4%, oops.
