During our travels (as well as prior to) we have been told by fellow travellers, that when in the Broome area, a must do/see adventure is head about 200kms north and visit Cape Leveque. Unfortunately the road to Cape Leveque is not suitable for caravans as it contains approx 100 odd kms of rough dirt/sand and corrugates.

As it just so happens, we were getting a bit sick of this travelling/caravaning lifestyle, so we decided to ditch the caravan and book a couple of nights in a 'luxurious' (more about that later) cabin at Middle Lagoon, a camping facility approx 50kms short of the north tip of the point.

So, after placing the caravan in storage for the next few days, we headed out and tackled the 130 odd kms of loose sand and rough corrugates. After stopping to chop up some wood for the camp fire, we arrived at Middle Lagoon where we were directed up a hill to our pre-booked cabin.

Our cabin? Our luxurious cabin! Although may be better to check out the pictures, I will try to paint a picture. Think??????.......tin roof pegola, each side enclosed by shade cloth....yep that's it!

No water (although a tap was outside), No kitchen (although it did have power and a gas bottle to run a bar fridge and 2 burner gas top). Things such as a TV, or even a lounge.....just a distant memory! Just 3 beds and a simple bench.

But, IT WAS GREAT!

Going to bed listening to the sound of the waves on the beach, waking up to glorious sun rises, all whilst under the doona. Although maybe a bit of a shock when we first arrived, definitely one of the adventures to talk about when we get home.

As you can imagine by the cabin, the main attraction of the area is to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area. (although we told the fishing is unbelieveable up here, although mainly from a boat)

Oh, and Middle Lagoon the place is not bad as well. Definitely worth the visit.

So after a few days, we handed back the keys (just joking, no keys to give back), we left Middle Lagoon, checking out Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm on the way back to Broome.

Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm........what an amazing place as well as an amazing story behind the farm. To summarise, back in the 60's/70's, a father simply had an idea that he could make pearls (at the time only the japanese knew how it all worked), talked his son into being dropped off in the middle of nowhere (although the area is amazing, best beach/water seen so far), where they, over time, have grown a business which today grows thousands of pearls which sell for millions of dollars. Just to make things even more amazing, they hold the record for the best and largest sinlge pearl grown in the world, conservatively estimated at over one million dollars.....but they won't sell!) Tough life :(

Overall opinion, definitely glad we made the decision to visit the Cape. Would come back again if for no other reason to check out some of the other attractions/areas and towns which make up this region.
