With the freezer full of fish (courtesy of yours truly) , we set of for our next destination, being Monkey Mia, home of the world famous tree swinging, banana munching, monkey dolphin feeding (or so we told the boys!)
We also told the boys we would book a tour on a cataram charter of Monkey Mia, which not only takes in a leisurely cruise around the bay, but also includes a visit to a pearl farm, searches for dugongs, as well as provides the opportunity to try out one of Bec's childhood dreams, being boom netting.
Not sure if the boys believed all the above, although they were pretty excited to see the monkey dolphins.
With the cruise all booked for the next day, we decided we would fill our first day in the area with a leisurely look around Denham before settings in for some early afternoon beverages. It wasn't long before we realised a gap in our plans though........the first feeding of the dolphins was set for 7.45am! This would clash with either our sleep and/or our breakfast. Luckily we heard we could visit the local resort and get a fully cooked buffet breakfast after the feeding but before the cruise, as we honestly couldn't think of any other options. (Luckily, as we all would agree, as getting up early was not an option).
Next morning, we arrived at the beach to eagerly await the arrival of the dolphins. It didn't take long and as promised our first dolphin arrived (with its calf) to be feed. We were told in advance that as there are numerous people and only a few dolphins to be feed, rangers will randomly select a few people from the crowd to hop in the water and feed the dolphin.
To no one's surprise, I was overlooked.......but they picked Cooper and Hunter! So, with that (and as Cooper was given a fish to feed the dolphin) we had to come clean and tell the boys they were normal dolphins, and not banana munching monkey dolphins!
Although we didn't get the friendly dolphin kisses we received at Coffs Harbour, seeing the dolphins in their natural environment was awesome, definitely a lot better than seeing them at a marine park.
Thus, as the dolphins were fed, and as we felt a bit hungry ourselves, we headed straight for the buffet breakfast prior to going on our cruise, where I will let the boys take over as their comments below seem to have the rest of the day covered.
Coopers monkey Mia
I liked feeding the dolphins and I like seeing dugongs which looked like giant puppies. I also like the pearl farm, where they put gold and opals into their oysters to make jewellery. I also hoped into the boom net. It was like a spa which pushed you around the water behind the boat. First, it was freezing cold and a little bit scary, but after a while, it was cool. I also like the all you can eat breakfast, I had heaps!
Hunters monkey Mia
I liked seeing dolphins and dugongs.dugongs are only where sea grass is. I also like the fish feeding. There were thousand of pink snapper which we feed bread and the fish were fighting over it. I also like the boat where they had a net at the front of the boat where we could sit, but we would get wet from the splashes of the boat.
