Carnarvon, fruit and vegetable capital of Western Australia.
With that in mind, we had dreams of arriving to fields filled with an amazing variety of fresh produce. Well.........to be kind, we must have arrived 'completely' out of season.
What a disappointment. The areas around Carnarvon seemed deserted and lacking attention. The fruit and vegetables in Woolworth's seemed fresher, and better priced!
With the initial disappointment passed, we decided to check out the town's other major reason for being, the OTC (the Overseas Telecommunication Commission) set up. The tower is an impressive sight when arriving into town, and with its background in helping receive and transmit signals from the first man on the moon missions, we were expecting great things. But.....what a disappointment. The information / museum consisted of a small room in an old house on top of the hill. With it's link to NASA, could do so much better!
With the second disappointment still on our mind, we decided to cut short of Carnarvon visit and head out to Point Quobba, approx 70 kms back north.
What a master stroke!!!
Point Quobba, and the blowholes in the area, are awesome. Additionally we were lucky to be around when some huge (I suppose they are all huge) humpback whales swam by only metres from the shore. Awesome sight.
And.......I caught a fish, the fish, which has propelled me to top of the holiday fishing competition. It was that big that the boys had trouble picking it up. Must have been 100's of kilos
PS. Not 100% sure what it is, but pretty sure it is some type of perch, will put a photo on the site shortly, but we cut it up anyway.....(hope it is not poisonous!).
And other activities in and around Carnarvon;
Ian's view;
- hmmmm......not much else to be honest, but the fish was awesome!
Bec's view

Hunter and Cooper's view
- let's move on so we can stop talking about the fish!
