Having committed ourselves to being in Townsville by the 18th May (to attend the Roosters v Cowboys football match), we decided to break up the remaining kilometres by spending a night in Bowen.
As we were only able to stay for 1 night, we quickly parked the van to check out the town, fit in some snorklelling, as well as some fishing/sight seeing.
We heard that Bowen has a nice bay (Horseshoe Bay) where the water is nice and it is safe to snorkel, and as Hunter was keen and it was a nice warm day, we decided to check it out. Although we didn't see many fish, we also didn't see any stinggers nor crocs....break even some would say.......can't complain I suppose
Next we drove into town to see what it was like, knowing that the movie 'Australia' was filmed there. The town had a nice feel to it, especially the old pubs and the local pier. Being the keen and experience fishermen that we are, we just had to try our luck.
Again !!!!, no keepers but at least we (or at least 1 of us.....being me!) were able to add to the holiday fishing challenge. For thus who can't, or don't want to remember, the revised tally is Dad 5, Mum 1, boys getting closer to a nudie run.
Next stop.. Roosters v Cowboys, or as the locals like to call it....Townsville.
