Well it's the day after Valentine's Day and so much has happened in the fabulous seaside resort of Henley Beach since last time I blogged.
Last week, I was walking to the library to return some books and I had almost reached Henley Square, the main 'hub' of the action in these parts. I heard a car horn beep loudly and saw a lady whom can only be described as 'drunk as a skunk' staggering across the road (bearing in mind it was barely lunchtime), and as she crossed the road she lurched over to the kerb toward a little cafe/resturant in the square. Tutting loudly (of course) I made my merry way past the square, but as I passed the drunk lady, she walked toward a table where three women were sitting round eating an early lunch. She stopped at the table, reached over one of the women, took a chip from one of their plates, ate it, then walked off.
On Friday night I conducted my first (and hopefully last) job interview over Skype. I couldn't see my interviewers, as there was a connection problem, but it didn't seem to matter, as I got the job anyway. Hoorah!
Last night myself and Howie went out for a Chinese at Fortune Duck (what a cracking place it is - they often get the order wrong or don't have things they say are on the menu, but it certainly is yummy). After our scrummy dinner, we got home and decided to watch a film. There was a breeze coming through the window, so I got under the duvet. About ten minutes later, there we were merrily watching a lovely film, when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. A big (well, big in English terms, smallish in Australian terms) black spider was crawling up the duvet over my legs. Needless to say, I screamed and jumped out of bed. We flung back the covers and it hadn't made it's escape quick enough. I am sorry to say that said spider came a cropper under the flip-flop of destiny.
Stranger things happened in Henley Beach today when I was stopped on my way to the library again - not by a drunken lady this time, but by a couple of elderly ladies who wanted me to help one of the ladies to her car because she had very sore legs. I did so, but when we got to the car she declared that it wasn't her car at all, and that hers had been stolen. Definately stolen. While they struggled to remember the number to call for the SA police, I looked around to see a number of cars that looked exactly the same as the one she thought was hers... As it turned out, she had forgotten what her car looked like. It was actually parked about 10 metres up the road. Anyway, I felt marvellous for having done my good deed for the day, and she even gave me a hug when she finally got to her car, which was very nice. She also gave me a piece of advice: look after your legs. Wisdom indeed.
It's another extraordinarily sunny, hot day in Adelaide and we're enjoying our last couple of weeks here. We've changed our flights and are now flying out of Sydney on March 14th, when we hope to stop our journey home in Thailand. Howie is determined to become Jean Claude Van-Damme and is doing a Thai Boxing camp (he thinks he'll come home being able to fight people blindfolded) and I am flying home on March 23rd.
