Do do doo do-doop do do dooo do-do do do dooo do doop do do doooo....
If only I could write the BBC Cricket Theme tune in words without seeming mad.
As you can see from our photo, the last couple of days have required us to consume much ice cream, generally because the temperatures here are soaring. Again - as in Sydney - the soaring temperatures and hot, sunny days have conincided with me getting gainful employment. This time, however, I am a little cricket wicket; I may look a fool in my flouresant green t-shirt and baseball cap, with my radio-filled front-pouch and my enormous backpack topped with a big unmissable sign saying 'Radio Commentary', but I do get to watch the Ashes for free. Yes, as an Adelaide Oval employee, I get to strut around the Oval in blistering heat, wearing long trousers and enclosed shoes because I have unlimited access to the member's area (not as impressive as it sounds). It's hot, roasting, sweaty, awkward work (try going to the toilet whilst laden down with 150 portable radios) but seeing England take Aussie wickets makes it worth it.
Personage spotting is plentiful. I've had a close encounter with both the England and Aussie teams, heard tell that Shane Warne was around, nearly caught a glimpse of Elijah Wood and most defaintely seen that lad from the Channel 4 racing with the bushy sideburns and the monocle. Followers of the Barmy Army will be pleased to hear that he was wearing very patrotic trousers, which featured a red and white candy stripe.
So, Cook and Trott played a blinder today and it's nice to know that the sight of KP will greet me in the stands tomorrow morning. Would be nice if he'd pop on over and buy a radio though.
