Horvats USA 2017
We started the day at Eli Creek today. Eli creek is a freshwater creek that empties 4 million litres of fresh water into the ocean every year. You can float downstream or snorkle to check out the fish. Then you get out, run back up the boardwalk, and do it all over again. The water was pretty cold as we tried to get there early as it gets very busy. We thought it was crowded when we arrived, but that was nothing to when we left...three tour buses and about twice as many families! The creek was also much shallower than we remembered, but still good for the kids. Next up was Lake Wabby. This lake is slowly being consumed by the Hammerstone Sandblow that is moving 1 meter a year. This is a bit sad for the rather friendly catfish in the lake that you can almost feed by hand. We actually caught some rain in the forest today, which gave us quite a different perspective of the island. I"m still gobsmacked by the Kauri pines. Tonight we're partaking of the BBQ Buffet at the resort restaurant. Good or not, at least I'll get a night off cooking! This is our last night on the island, we're off to the Gold Coast tomorrow and then to Myall Lakes. This is truly one of the most amazing places on earth, and one we will definately be coming back to.
