Han & Dan
Hello again.... well we made the 8 hours on the train. It wasn't actually that bad, we had a room about 7' by 6' which 6 of us had to sleep in. We got the top bunks which at least meant we had some privacy but it also meant we couldn't sit up!!! I fininshed my only magazine so not sure what I am going to do now!! We were with two really nice Chinese famailes who didn't stare or spit which is very unusual!
We spent the weekend doing absolutly nothing- having read my china book it says that the tourist areas are really busy on the weekend so we decided to just chill for a dew days. (Its not the same when there are 48 Chinese channels and 1 English which only talks about how China beat the war against Japanese aggression) For the last 2 night we have watched Die Hard 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean in Chinese (think just so Dan can stare at Kiera!!)
Yesterday we had the most weird day ever- probably the best and worst experiance so far.
The mountain in Tai'an is called Tai Shan and in our guide book says that the walk is not that grueling- so we thought we would give it a go. We were up at 8 as the round trip is supposed to take 8 hours. We managed to walk 3/4 of the way up and then had to get the cable car (Dan said he could have done the rest on foot, but when we saw the steps i'm sure he would have changed his mind)
We got to the summit (1545m above sea level) and were bloody knackered, but the view was amazing. We took a few photies and headed all the way down- which should have been the easy option however it was 6660 steps which were Chinese foot size, i.e. tiny which made it really difficult.
Anyway just glad to be going down we met this really scary man who was about 80, had no teeth was really dirty. I am sure he lived in the woods.
He jumped off his chair and shook Dan's hand- totally amazed to see us and then gave him a hug. He then reached out his hand to shake mine, so I did but thought I aint huggin you so tried to keep walking. There was no getting away and he hugged me.... then started to stroke my back and then ran his hand accross my boobs!! Nice!!!! I have never walked so fast in my life after that!! Dan thought it was hilarious.
So the walk was hard work, but we made it back to our hotel for a shower and headed out for a well deserved feed. From our last experiance in a Chinese resturant we thought as long as we take our book (which has 4 pages of food translations in) we would be fine. We headed to as nice looking place and tried to order something- anything. We ended up with chicken in soy sauce and chicken in oyster sauce- safe option you would think until..... it turned out to be chciken legs!!! No joke it was horrible, Dan even had an ankle!!! It makes me feel like chucking even now!! A horrible meal but a great story to remember!
Anyway off to Beijing tonight- another 8 hours on the train, but hopefully we will be able to sleep as we dont leave till 10.30pm.
Then hopefully we can get some decent food and a few beers as we have only found 2 bars in the last week.
Catch up soon
Han and Dan xx
