Hello, thanks for all your messages! It's great to hear from you all. We are currently in Nanjing- about 100 miles north west from Shanghai, but a 4 hour train journey! We kinda underestimated the train sevice in China and thought we could get a ticket at the station- wrong move!! Dan got bought to one side by a police man, while I was outside being stared and pointed at by locals. Anyway... the policeman actually got Dan to the front on the queue and we managed to get 2 tickets to Nanjing BUT we had to stand as there were no seats left! The journey wasn't too bad but we did seem to get stared at by everyone- if only we could understand what they were saying. Anyway.... Nanjing was much quieter than Shnaghai which was a welcome surprise as we could relax for a few days. Yesterday we went on a scary cable car ride to the top of Zijin Shan (448m) and all we could see was smog- great! We did see our first little lizard tho! After our tough day we planned a good feed on Chinese rice and noodles, however it wasn't that easy. Wednesday night we went to a resurtant which has no English menu so blagged our way to getting, one beef, one pork, one rice and one noodle- surprisingly it was really nice! We couldn't handle this again so we opted for a mexican- easy option but it still has a Chinese twang! After we found our first bar which was owned by aussie brothers- a relief someone else to talk to!!!! Now off to Tai'an which is north from here. We learnt our lesson and booked tickets early as it is 8 hours on the train!! We even have a bed each- but not sure what it is going to be like, we will let you know. Catch up in a few days.
