Hay, me again (Dan refuses to write as he thinks Sky Sports is much more exciting) Well, we have been in Beijing for nearly a week now. We have done all the touristy trips to the Summer Palace, Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. We didn't get to see the body thought (Chairman Mao has been preserved in a box for people to see) as it was too hot. (Jane, sure you would have loved it!) There is loads of renovation work being done all over Beijing for the Olympics so alot of the tourist places are covered in scaffolding. And they are full of Chinky tour groups! Dad, if you think I dawdle you should come over here, they have two speeds slow and slower unless they want to get onto a train or see a monument and its elbows out and charge! We are planning to do the wall tomorrow- so early start and then a day of trecking, but looking forward to it. We would have done it sooner but we have been ill. Think we had bad food. Typical, we either don't get any or stuff that makes us bad! Mums- we are ok now, so you don't have to worry. We are statying in a hostel in a football stadium, Dan's dream! There was a match here last night against two Chinky teams, one green and one blue, think one must have been Beijing. This whole place has been about football... we even found a footie bar with a Villa flag!! (and Dan got up at 3am to watch the England game!!) We also went to Death Row- Beijing Zoo (sorry Em) we did plan to go to the aquarium but it was closed and it took us ages to get there so we had to see something. Was crap, but there were pandas. All in all Beijing has been a fab place. We have had good food, there is a street full of bars and we saw a kick ass, kung foo street fight!! Just opposite from where we are staying they are building a new hotel and one day when we were walking home these two site workers were kicking off. One got a knee in the face- awsome!! We watched for a bit- free entertainment, but then it turnes into a street brawl so we left..... Off to Xi'an tomorrow night (another nice 12 hour train journey) so will write again from there.
