Han & Dan
So... we get the early train to Chengdu because Dan has a phobia about squatting over a whole in the ground. Didn't like to tell him, but thats all they have on the train!!
This was the longest journey we have done so far, a timely 18 hour trip and we got the oldest train in the world. GREAT!
We also get cooped up with Mr and Mrs TB who I thought were really scary and I told Dan that I wasnt going to sleep for the whole journey. Even though they looked like they might knife us in the night they were actually plesant and even gave us some of their food. The woman couldn't keep her eyes off us.
I had the bottom bunk so was having a listen to my Ipod while Dan read his book, and then I got eyed by two Chinese men away on business who spoke broken English and thought they would practice on me. Dan pretended he didn't notice so I had four chinks round me asking about our trip etc. Eventually found out they were Food Technologists (kinda what I used to do) for a vitamin company, but can you believe it....they had never heard of Cadbury- criminal!!!
Anyway, Chengdu was a good place but it didn't have much to offer, we did the obligatory walk round the town and a trip to the panda research centre.
The panda's were ace. It wasn't at all like a zoo, it was a breeding centre so they were in massive enclosures and look really happy. Two were even having a scrap! And... they had a tiny, weeny little baby one which was only a few weeks old, awwww.
On our trip we also met a couple, and the girl used to be a vet at the Clent Hills Vetenary Group- small world!!
Then came the biggest decision... a 39 hour train journey to Hong Kong or pay 2 pounds more and get a flight?!?!?! So we flew!!
So, all is well, and will catch up again soon... xx
