Who gets a parking fine in Greece? A place where you share the road with donkeys and people literally park in the middle of the road! I am not even driving a car! Breakfast turned out to be really expensive since we both got 45 euro parking fines. Maybe it was for not leaving the hazards on (seems you can do whatever you want if you do that).
One of the downsides to the Greek economy being so weak (apart from the obvious struggle for them of course) is that now the police are pouncing on tourists who can't read parking signs and slapping fines on them. Someone else who rented through the same company as us got a 200 euro fine for not wearing a helmet. This, in a country where you see three people on one motorbike that looks about 40 years old!
Between that and Q misplacing his credit card and having to cancel it, the day was less relaxing than i hoped ;o) I did get to play with some stray cats and dogs and the weather was amazing and we FINALLY got to see the type of sunset Santorini is famous for :o)
Tomorrow we leave at 5.30am for the airport to head to Athens after which we fly to London for one night. Back on the road again!
I have seen lots of royal wedding updates on facebook which surprises me a bit, i didn't think anyone i know in Oz was interested in the royal family. Aside from my mum but she can't help it, she's English. (Hi Mum!). Needless to say it wasn't on TV in Greece!
We returned the quad bikes in the arvo and had great fun trying to organise to pay the fines. A guy from another shop stepped in to help as the ones we hired from don't speak much English (especially when it suits them). The lovely man that helped me told me they are 'donkeys that can talk'. In Greece being called a donkey is pretty insulting so it was good for a laugh after lots of stress.
An American tourist asked me if i knew how to get to the beach. Seriously. On a tiny Island. Ummm, drive 5 mins in any direction? I asked which beach as there are 3-4 really famous ones and he shrugged and said ' dunno, a beach'. Why can't people like that stay in America where they belong???? they have no idea where they are or what is around them. Why do they even bother to leave home????
