Today we made it to Santorini (Greek Island). The flight was quite uneventful and we arrived around lunch time.
We are staying in a little apartment on a cliff with a view of the Caldera (the rim of the Volcano that errupted causing part of the island to sink, giving it the unique shape it has today).
Unfortunatelty it is not ideal weaterwhise to be here at this time of year. It is only about 17 degrees and it is quite foggy and windy. It is still very pretty and fun to be here but there are less tours running and it's not really beach weather. Santorini is famous for the sunsets over the caldera and usually you can go on a boat cruise where they take you to swim in hotsprings and out to the ideal location to view the sunset but that tour isn't running as it is off season. We are not sure if we will do a boat tour at all as we may not be able to see much and it could be quite cold on the boat.
We have hired ATV's (quadbikes) and have been hooning around on those in between the crazy bus drivers and the cliff edges. Zeus is my co-pilot!
We spent the afternoon getting to know the local area and for me - learning how to ride a quadbike.
We had dinner at a local taverna and the owner picked my meal which was fish which was ok. Wouldn't have been my first choice but i guess it's good to try new things. He seemed mildly offended that I didn't eat all of the stuff on top of the fish but it was largely tomato which i don't eat! That's what he gets for picking people's food for them. He kind of guilted me into it but I was trying to be polite!
The quad bike ride home was FREEZING!
