Meikles Adventure
Sitting around the fire on the water's shore – can hear the ocean lapping on the sand below us – just far enough away to be out of the crocodiles’ path.
Once again an absolutely awesome spot. Sitting amongst the palms (some just a tad prickly!), dinner eaten & the girls fast asleep – another full on day, or else they’re just still tired from yesterday!
Travelled this morning from King Edward River camp site to a place called McGowens Island in the far north of the Kimberlies, past Kulumburu. Pretty expensive but pretty special spot – still do wish we could swim though, because it does get kinda hot during the day, oh well, just got to bite it – don’t want any of us to be crocodile lunch that’s for sure!
Road was pretty rough, took us about 4 hours to do about 150km.
Pretty windy setup & we have to worry about sandflies & now hermit crabs – not really worry about the crabs too much other than standing on them though, we’ll see what the story with the sandflies in the morning is(?)
Went to look at another spot called Honeymoon Bay, where Sach is going to go out on a boat with ol’ George in a couple of days for $15 – as much as the camping there would have cost us, but Sach seemed intent on staying down at McGowan’s, I’m sure its got less sandflies down here though so I’ll not complain & might get to wash some clothes and go on the net(?) Been quite some time since we’ve had any service for anything, and we might get a little bit out here in the absolute middle of nowhere – and I mean nowhere, the road’s are clear proof of that! Magnificent though – would be nice to have the boat out here – called R&R – 2 older people own it and its their home for 3 or 4 months of the year, must be worth a couple million, a motor yacht – wow! The lady said there are 300 or more islands out here & they go out sailing through them, stop off at spots along the way – she sounded well chuffed with herself, so she should be, I think that would have to be a little slice of heaven.
