Meikles Adventure
Still have no idea of the date or day of the week for the most part – couldn't tell you the time of the day either if I was asked I don’t think.
Up early and out we go – little bit before 8am I think it was, heading up to Mitchell Falls camp site to go and walk down to the Mitchell Falls.
The drive took about 2.5 hours for 76km of very rough road – the reason for us leaving the camper trailer at King Edward River.
Saw Rock art, went swimming, saw some helicopters & took about 6 hours to do the walk – my goodness – a very fair hike for all of us, especially the little possums – they did good! 6.4 km round trip. We did have a couple of swims though – it was very very hot & by the end my feet were very, very sore – due to hiking boots finally giving up after about 15 years of action – oops – no more walks for a few days – could be awhile due to the absence of shops I think!
The falls were incredible though – an amazing sight, whatever would it look like in the wet – what a sight to see, I’m sure!
The walk back was a bit of a struggle to be sure – seemed like it took forever with sore little toes, but no time for complainers when there’s kid’s to be carried as well! We got a swim near the end and saw some really good rock art, so that at least cooled us down for the long trip home.
Sach had to drive a hazardous road in the dark half the way, but no catastrophes (thank goodness. Got back to the camp site in the pitch dark at about 7.30pm, struggle to find the camp but we did eventually, always a few people about!
Not long before the girls were gone to sleep & although up a couple hours after, we weren’t up too late either – what a day!
