Waved goodbye to Stanthorpe on Friday morning and left on the bus to Brisbane where we arrived at around 3pm.. finally back to normal civilisation again! We checked in at the hostel, threw our bags in the room and went for a wander around the shops. The five of us had a nice sit down meal and a few jugs of beer then headed back to the hostel to get ready for our night out.
It was a short 15 minute walk to Fortitude Valley where we hit a few bars before moving onto Bar Soma at around 11.30pm for the club night. It was a cool little bar/club but it was only around half full which was a shame so very little atmosphere was created. There isn't much of a club scene in Brisbane so it wasn't a suprise. Robert Hood, the DJ who we had come to see came on at 1am and the music was good but the lack of people took the edge off the night.. still had a really good time though. We left around 4am and walked back to the hostel.
And then there was four :( Unfortunately Matt had to leave for Sydney on Saturday to start his job so it was sad to see him go.. he will be missed!
Saturday was a day of recovery so we had a bit of a sleep in. We decided to go to the cinema during the afternoon to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 4 which was pretty good.
A lad called Jake who I met in my first week at Ozintro and who I travelled with for the first seven weeks had started working in Brisbane this week so I met up with him for a beer and a catch up.. was great to see him.
One film wasn't enough for us.. we had half price cinema vouchers so we thought we'd take advantage and go watch another in the evening after having a KFC for tea. We watched The Hangover 2 which was also pretty good. The film finished just after 9pm so we went straight back to the hostel for an early night as we were planning to get up in the early hours of Sunday morning to watch the Champions League Final between Barcelona and the scum (Manchester United) in the hostel cinema room.
We got up at 4.30am ready for the start of the game.. it was now my birthday too!!! Barcelona won the game 3-1 and being a Liverpool supporter it was the perfect start to my birthday. I intended on going back to sleep once the game had finished at 7am but I was buzzing so I just stayed up and Skyped my family who were waiting back home to wish me happy birthday :) Thankyou guys.. love you all very much!!
The lads got up out of bed and we went for some brunch at Sushi Sushi.. sooo good! We had a wander around the shops and then went for a few beers. Nando's was next on the agenda which I had been craving since the last one I had in Melbourne. Then we headed back to the hostel to get ready for the Super 15's Rugby match we had bought tickets for between the St George Reds and the Canterbury Crusaders at the Brisbane Suncorp Stadium.. the game was kicking off at 4.10pm. We arrived in time to grab a couple of beers each and find our seats. The Suncorp is a really nice stadium which holds over 50,000 people but there wasn't much of an atmosphere until the last 10 minutes of the game when there was only a point separating the teams. I'm not really into rugby but I enjoyed it nevertheless.. the Reds ended up winning 17-16 with the last kick of the game. We headed to a few bars after the game where we met up with Jake again aswell as two other girls we had met in the first week at Ozintro.. Sam and Jade who were also working in Brisbane. A lad called Nick came to meet us too.. he had been a roommate of ours in the first week at Stanthorpe but left to work in Brisbane.. so there was a good few of us out.
We spent most of the night in a bar called Victory around the corner from the hostel we were staying in.. it was cheap drinks all night and we definitely got our moneys worth leaving in the early hours rather tipsy to say the least.
It was a great day/night.. overall a great birthday from start to finish! Thankyou family, thankyou friends and thankyou Barca!!!! :)
Up early on Monday morning to catch the bus at 11am to make our way up to Noosa.
Awesome weekend!
