Route 66 - where the fun begins...
After collecting the car we headed off in the wrong direction (!) - it wasn't the only time today - Imogen has been promoted to navigator.
With our "roadtrip" music playing, Joliet was our first stop and we spent a few bucks in the Route 66 Welcome Centre. Wilmington came next where we met a couple who had just married in Central Park and were travelling Route 66 for their honeymoon.
Driving through Braidwood, Gardner, Dwight & Lexington we had good opportunities for photos stops but Pontiac was by far the best which has a superb free museum dedicated to The Mother Road - we got to add our name to the international Pontiac "hood" on the wall.
Struggling to locate our hotel we asked a guy leaving a restaurant with his family, he then drove to the hotel (about 10 miles) so we could follow him
- what a guy (we'd still be looking now)
Our hotel tonight is superb, we've had a swim, a relax in the spa bath and cooked some reasonably healthy food for tea.
Tomorrow our journey takes us to Collonsville...
