Genoa (or Genova) was a really nice city with a large port but also areas of cobbled alleyways and sculptured buildings. We spent our first afternoon there just wandering the streets and getting a bite to eat. The little pathways were a change to any of the other cities we'd visited so we enjoyed just walking around. As we'd eaten a late lunch we decided to buy some food for dinner, trying to avoid pasta dishes!!
Up for breakfast at the hostel, which was a lovely spread, before sorting ourselves out for the day ahead. We went to another part of the city we hadn't yet explored, closer to the harbour side. For lunch we tried the traditional Genoese pesto pasta which was very tasty and pretty cheap, always good! Afterwards we walked along the harbour side with fishing boats and yachts in the dock, and street sellers at the market stalls. Heading back in land we found the more commercial/shopping side to Genoa near Piazza La Ferrari which had a huge fountain in the square, where we stopped for a coffee.
We went back to our hostel for a little bit before going out for dinner, where we ended up in quite an up market fish restaurant - very tasty!! We found a busy bar round the corner for a cocktail, they also had a free buffet which would have been good if we hadn't ready eaten!
In the morning we've got a three hour train via Milan to Bologna!
