We arrived at our hostel in Budapest about 4pm and were pleased to find out that we basically had an apartment to ourselves! After a good nights sleep we decided to go on a free walking tour, taking in the main sights of Buda and Pest, the two sides of the river. Budapest is quite different to what we'd imagined and the tour guide definitely helped us with the history and culture of the place. The views from the Royal Palace were amazing, even on a cloudy day! It was then time for lunch, which cost us about £1 for a big baguette - definitely cheaper here than in England! Our dinner was also cheap but very tasty, we had traditional Hungarian food (I had beef goulash) whilst listening to a man playing the piano in the restaurant. We then headed to one of the famous ruin bars of Budapest, Szimpla Kert, very weird and wonderful!
On our last full day in Budapest we visited the Szechenyi Baths- thermal baths which were very warm and relaxing. In the evening we walked down to the River Danube to see all the buildings lit up which was great as it was such a clear evening. Budapest was definitely more attractive than we were expecting!
Next stop - Vienna!
