After a long day of train journeys we eventually arrived in Anzio about 6pm and checked in to the B&B. We headed straight out for a walk around the town and to get some dinner. Anzio is a harbour town so the majority of restaurants specialised in fish which was great as we were starting to get a bit fed up of the traditional Italian places.
We woke early to enjoy a pastry and drink at our B&B before setting off to the beach, just a 10 minute walk away. It was really nice to relax on the beach, which was similar to the beaches in England actually, a long stretch with proper sand (nicer weather at this time of year though of course). For lunch we went to a little cafe on the beach before getting back in the sun! We headed back about 5.30 to get ourselves showered and ready to go out for dinner. It was a really lovely evening and the views over the harbour were lovely, so we chose a fish restaurant on this side. The food was excellent and reasonably priced too.
Our second day in Anzio wasn't too different from the first really, although we did pop into the supermarket to get water and fresh fruit for the day. The beach was a lot quieter as it was a Monday, so very peaceful. Before going back we stopped for an ice-cream by the harbour, which the Italians definitely do best! By the time we'd had showers it was fairly late so we just found a small pizzeria for a cheap and cheerful dinner.
Anzio was a definitely the least touristy place we'd been which was a good change and made it feel a bit more like a summer holiday. Especially before we head to Rome for our next stop.
