WEDNESDAY 6TH DECEMBER
Got up early doors, took a taxi to the bus terminal and hopped on a bus headinng for Ayuthaya. Arrived two hours later and booked in at a guest house called 'Tony's Place'. Compared to the room we left in Bangkok this one was lush. Hired two bikes and toured the ruins of the city which was surprsingly small considerin it used to be the capital. After kym mastered turning right at a crossroads we were flying! The ruins were interesting but to be honest after the first two they all looked the same. Kym's favourite was Wat Phra Mahatthat which had a Buddha head around which tree routes had grown. She did have a blonde moment tho when she asked me if the head was actually part of the tree! After we gave up on touring the ruins we enjoyed a pleasant jaunt around town, taking in the locals' daily way of life. After that we got took by a tuk tuk to the pier to set sail on a 'sunset' long boat tour around the Mae Nam Chao Phraya river which stopped at two current temples and another ruin. Kym felt very tranquil. After the last one he took us to a night market which was full of clothes and food stalls. Im actually becoming quite cultured-really enjoyed boating past all the riverside houses with all the locals fishing. At night we met a Cumbrian guy who could have been called Andy and had several beers. Planned to stay up til half two to watch united but couldnt hack it!
