This morning we attended University Church at Walla Walla University (WWU), College Place, Washington. They have two services here; a contemporary service at 9.30am and a more traditional, or classic service (as they like to call it) at 11.45am. We had a sleep-in, so we chose to head along to the second service. It's a big church - much like College Church at Avondale, with a top and bottom level, but a little larger. Even though we expected most students would be at the 9.30am service, there were still a lot at the later service. On Monday is WWU's Autumn Quarter Registration, so a lot of new students are already here for orientation, but no doubt there are still quite a few returning students to arrive after the weekend.
After church we bumped into Kristy (the CUC recruiter), and we were invited to lunch where she was staying. Kristy is friends with the daughter of the couple that invited us to lunch, their names are Dorita and Mark Tessier, and Dorita works in Advancement/Alumni relations at WWU. In the afternoon they took us for a tour around WWU, College Place, and Walla Walla. Actually, along with WWU, there are two other colleges in the Walla Walla area: Whitman College - a private institution, and Walla Walla Community College. The Walla Walla area is also a very successful grape/wine growing region, and as a result many local businesses are geared toward that.
We bumped into an ex-US student; Christopher Simons in Rooks Park where we had stopped to play some Frisbee. The park is a popular hang-out spot for students on a nice Sabbath arvo. Chris says hi to all back at Avondale!
