After visiting the UFO Museum, we left Roswell, and got on the road to Amarillo, TX. Every night I've been hugging my pillow, dreaming dreams of Amarillo...um, yeah. Amarillo is about 4 hrs from Oklahoma City, OK and is located in the middle of the Texas Panhandle, so it was cool to drive Texas's north on the way through to OKC.
Oklahoma City was rather fresh. We had a pretty quiet day and did a bit of sightseeing around the city. We took a walk through Bricktown, Downtown, which was once the warehouse district of OKC that has now been restored to become a vibrant home to many restaurants, sporting facilities, shops, theatre and a sweet canal - which I could walk across because it was frozen...very cool.
We also visited the memorial site of the Oklahoma City Bombing of 1995, which took the lives of 168 victims and injured more than 680. The explosion destroyed buildings up to 16 blocks away from the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown OKC. It was amazing to see the reflection pool and the personal items of commemoration on the chain link fence that is erected on the west end of the memorial.
As we are due to commence our Southwest Tour on Monday, our final destination for Sunday evening will be Fayetteville, AR, about a 3 hr 45 min drive east of OKC.
