After a much needed shower we headed out to get some much needed lunch before checking out the Amazonas Theatre. The outside is incredible as is the inside. We have finally arrived in Manaus after 6 long nights in a hammock on the ferry up the Amazon river. I was never so glad to see a bed and shower as I was this morning when we checked into the hotel. I have come to the conclusion that a hammock is fine for lying in for a few hours next to a pool, while reading and have a snooze, but it is not conductive to a good nights sleep. We have finally arrived in Belem after two horrendously long days on the truck. 'The truck', you say, 'I thought you were heading out on a public bus'. Well, so did I. When I left the internet to head back to the hotel it was to get my stuff off the truck, work out what I needed and repack. I headed back to the hotel for our BBQ dinner and found out that our driver had been rushed off to a clinic as he had chest pains. They eventually diagnosed indigestion or food poisoning and sent him home but he wasn't too good so we were told we had an extra day in this lovely town to relax to give Euan some time to recover. This beach lifestyle is going to be hard to say goodbye to tomorrow, when we start our trip inland. We have spent 2.5 days here chilling out with nothing more to do than sleep, read and swim, either by the pool or down at the beach.
