Wow, we have definitely hit the heat now and along with the humidity we are really feeling it. Just need to get used to it because it's only going to be much of the same I'm thinking.

We left BA nice and early and had an 11hr day on the truck. Pretty much a bush camp that night but there was a toilet we could use and a place where they could buy cold beer. Next day was only a short drive but we crossed borders into Paraguay and we arrived at camp in Trinidad around 12.30pm and it was heaven. Lovely green grass, lots of shade and best of all - a pool. After having lunch it was time to chill out by the pool reading and when it got too hot, jump in for a dip. Nothing could have been better and it was nice to have nothing to do but relax. The camp cooked us a BBQ for dinner which was even nicer. Would have been nice to stay there an extra day but time is passing.

Yesterday morning we went to the Jesuitic Mission of Santisima Trinidad del Parana, basically ruins from the Jesuits that were in Paraguay in the 1700's before they were expelled. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins were beautiful and much bigger than I expected. Some of the stonework was incredible and I had a lot of fun taking different photos, along with enjoying the sight. They took in Native Indians and helped them out, which made the slave traders angry as it obviously stood in the way of their work. Eventually the government threw the Jesuits out of the country around 1770's (I think).

From here we drove to Asuncion, the capital where we have 2 nights. Luckily the hotel has air conditioning which is all we were worried about. Wandered around yesterday arvo and checked out the government buildings and was also shown the shanty town which is so close to the Government Palace and Congress it is ridiculous. Just shows the difference between poor and rich here so clearly.

Went out for a lovely Spanish dinner last night and had some great sangria and paella. Today I was pretty much going to do nothing, but somehow I have managed to spend the day shopping and spend much more money than expected, although very cheap to what you would pay at home. Known here for beautiful filigree jewellery and I bought some of that, along with a top, dress and a hammock. Now, I can hear you say 'Hammock', but it is a practical purchase. When in Brazil we are going to be on a ferry on the Amazon river for 4 nights and we need a hammock to sleep in. I'm also thinking with this heat, if possible at some of the campsites it might be nice to sleep in, instead of the tent.

Tonight we are hoping to go to a cafe that does live Blues & Jazz music - well so the guidebook says, so wait and see. Tomorrow we are heading to Brazil and to Igauzu Falls. Can't wait for the mist from those falls to cool us down. Will be doing a helicopter flight over the falls as well which I am really looking forward to.
