Hello! Hopefully you can see the image well- it looks a bit blurry on here but it's actually an great photo really! Today we did another snorkelling trip but this time to the stunning island of koh phi phi! We can't decide which snorkelling location we like better...the one today had much more colourful fish (some were literally all colours of the rainbow!) but they were right on the ocean floor amongst the coral rather than swimming around you... so the verdicts out! Koh phi phi was one of the islands which was absolutely obliterated by the tsunami in 2004.. When you go there you can't help but imagine what it must have been like- if you are on the main beach there's literally nowhere to run- high land is a good 45 mins-1 hour away and that's if you ran all the way... most of the tourist area looks as though nothing ever happened now but there are some small spots where you can still see the wreckage. None of the locals we have spoken to or any of the tours we've been on have mentioned anything about it- we think its obviously still a very 'raw' subject but its really amazing to see how much the island has managed to get back on its feet. Tomorrow we're hoping to go and see the equivalent of the Rio Jesus statue called 'Big Buddha'- its definitely living up to its name, you can see it for miles!! We might play some mini golf in the evening too :D by the way we wanted to acknowledge the fact that we are getting all your messages and they're lovely to read so thank you very much! :D night!
