On Monday we taught colours to the 5's and 6's which they seemed to grasp pritty quickly fran taught on her own in the morning.
On Tuesday lessons were cancelled due to tent making out of bamboo in preperation for scout camp!! We taught them the bamboo game in english first and then were forced to play in thai Kru Yute loved it! Sophia and Sarah arrived in the afternoon in order to prepare for our early start on Wednesday..... The director baught us some interesting food which consisted of custurd, tuna, coconut, bread and ketchup......!! At 4pm we had a little dance lesson where we taught Kru Yute and Kru Sawan how to do the thriller dance it was hillarious!! We ate dinner all together with the teachers and ended up dancing around the kitchen and learning some Mai Thai boxing!!
Wednesday was the first day of scout camp!! The 4 falangs were put in charge of seperate groups and set off on our walk up to Hoisin! It was a 5km walk through rivers, jungle, and up steep hills but good fun following the signs along the way!! When we arrived there was a strange ritual with talcum powder smeared on the kids faces!! They then built there tents out of bamboo and tarpaulin the girls tents weren't quite as successful as the boys tents as several of them fell down!! We then had lunch before the activities in the afternoon!! Susie was on bombs...... where the children had to move a spy bottle using string and elastic!! Fran was on water where the children had a race to fill up bottles using only there body parts so they ended up drenched using their mouths, hands, tops, trousers and shoes to fill up the bottles!! In the afternoon we were also taken around the local lahu village where we cooked a fish on the fire and saw some of the homes. We then returned to camp where we made our skirts out of banana leaves in preperation for our sulu dance in the evening!! After dinner we got dressed in our tribal outfits with war paint and back combed hair and were taught our routine!! We skipped around the unlit campfire surrounded by the children with flaming tourches whooping like red indians before lighting it.... it was very surreal!! The show then began where students had a processing with raindeer antlers and sang songs and presented the director with a hawaiian necklace!! After about 15 minutes a storm hit and we all had to take cover after a brief raindance in the kids tents.....!! We only had a candle as light and the odd lightning!! We were all drenched..... and so was our tent!! We sang songs under the canvas including "wimba way" from the lion king!! After a while the rain stopped and the party continued and there was much singing and dancing around the bonfire!! We sang Grease while the male teachers danced in womens clothing which was brilliant and we also attempted the thriller dance!! Somchai played the guitar (he could do the backing to any song we sang) which was very nice sitting around once the dancing had stopped!! Kru Op never stopped singing and Kru Sawan put in some rather classic performances in his drunken state!! Some of the girls even gave us massages although there was alot of thumping!! We cooked bananas on the fire and there was a full moon!! Although we got very muddy it was an amazing night!!
On Thursday morning after very little sleep we awoke and had some hot milo before heading off up the steapest hill we have ever seen!! Susie's group decided to run it which she wasn't too amused about!! We walked the 7km back to school with our groups although it was a much more unorgnised walk than the day before!! But fun all the same!! After a much needed shower we had lunch with Waew before heading into Tha Ton to see Vicky and Izzy where we also happend to see Sarah and Bridie who missed their Song Taew so we had a nice curry and film night!!
