Today was a nothing sort of day. A travelling back to Melbourne day.
Increasingly nervous that we still hadn't succeeded in booking a place for tonight (owing almost entirely to Swansea backpackers not providing us with WIFI & the Phil induced double penguin evening escapades the day after), we booked an instant book on air bnb. Unfortunately this is quite far from the centre of town, but beggars can't be choosers. We do soften the blow by splitting up our time in Melbourne, and booking another place in trendy Brunswick for the second part of the week. Hooray!
So having done this, we make a large brekkie, before checking out really quite late. But there is nobody here to chase us. It's all quite strange.
With two hours to kill before our shuttle bus to Hobart airport, we head for a nearby coffee shop with all our bags, and catch up with blog writing (!!)
A taxi working for the shuttle company takes us direct to the airport, where we then wait another 3 hours for our flight. The shuttle company insisted that we leave Hobart so early, as other than road... THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO GET TO THIS AIRPORT. I assume therefore, they've got to work in for traffic jams / diversion routes to the airport. Ridiculous really.
Plane. Women who insist on reclining their chairs on us despite this being a budget airline and there was already negative legroom available. This results in a passive aggressive Bailhache accidentally on purpose kneeing the chair in the back until it goes upright again.
Take a taxi to our bnb, as there is seemingly no easy way to get to our bed via public transport. This, despite us being so close to airport (and far away from town).
And then we meet Helen our host. Wowza she is keen. Before we know what's going on, she's driving us to the nearest supermarket so that we can cook our din dins. I figure this is because the house is MILES away from both shops and the train station, but we'll report back on this matter tomorrow.
Back home, we cook and eat pasta pesto, watch Roger Federer lose to Novak in the tennis, then turn in for bed. Early start tomorrow for our Melbourne Greeters tour!
