Wow what a day! An early start and a little walk around Jackson on the hunt for birds for which we saw many including the American robin, a red winged blackbird and the American magpie (you really can't tell the difference). As we walked along the road we also spotted a deer grazing by a little lake. So feeling successful we went back to our hotel for breakfast. I got stupidly excited at breakfast by the pancake machine and think that I will be having the same for breakfast tomorrow just so I get to use the machine again (and the pancakes were yummy!).

After breakfast we jumped in the minibus and headed out of town stopping firstly at the visitor centre were we saw a red tailed hawk (the first of many) and lots of other birds including a kingfisher. As we walked across the bridge we also saw a muskrat. After looking around the Grand Teton visitor centre and realising the size of the animals we were hoping to see we jumped back in the minibus and headed out of town stopping at different points along the way to spot different animals and admire the scenery.

During the day we saw so many different birds including swallows and finches and so many different types of blackbirds. We also saw cranes, turkey vultures, hen harriers and a bald eagle. Add to this the marmot which made the most amazing warning signal, the bighorn sheep, pronghorn deer, bison and ground squirrels I would say that the first day has been pretty amazing and we've still got so much more to come.

So after a busy day of spotting and a visit to the Gros Ventre Slide where a landslide occurred in 1925 totally changing the entire surrounding landscape, we returned to our hotel for a little rest before dinner.

We all met up after our rest and went for dinner and then took a drive out to try and find moose and wolves. Unfortunately we didn't see either but we did see beavers, another muskrat and a long eared owl. After this we returned to the hotel and headed to bed ready for another early start tomorrow looking for bears!
