My Big Adventure
We got up and breakfasted and dropped the little man to school which was really interesting seeing his classroom and the layout of school. From here we headed out with our other little tour guide to do the Art Deco tour of Innisfail, the Art Deco capital of Australia. We took in the sights of Innisfail including the Shire Hall, the oldest building in Innisfail, Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and the Art Deco Water Tower. We had a pit stop on the way in the new library where we read a story before heading out to complete our tour. When we finished our tour we headed to the Lollipop Cafe where they make sweets in their cafe. So we had scones and coffee (a milkshake for me) and sampled the freshly made sweets. Sweets are called lollies in Australia which took me a little while to get used to. After we had refuelled we headed to K-Mart. Now this was my first K-Mart experience and I would say it was quite lucky that I have a weight limit on my case as otherwise I think I would have spent a fortune! From K-Mart we headed home to had a relax/play - lots of pretend picnics and trips to the shops. We then went to collect the little man before headed out on our after school trip - Snapping Tours. Snapping Tours took us on a tour of the Johnstone river and on the hunt for crocs!! The tour was really good and took us two hours. We learnt about the history of Innisfail (which means isle of Destiny) and had some drinks and a snack for the journey. We were really lucky as we saw two crocs. The first one was a baby croc no older than a month sitting on a log. It's hard to imagine the amount of damage this croc could cause. Although we found out that only 1% of baby crocs actually survive in the wild as they are likely to be eaten by barramundi or maybe even a bigger croc. After we saw the baby croc we were then lucky to see another crocodile in the bank. This time a bigger one at approximately a metre long. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of the bigger crocs as they were a number of other boats on the river which disturbed them but we were lucky enough to see a number of kingfishers, spiders, an eagle, a couple of cormorants and a lots of other birds. We also visited the crabbing net to see if they had caught anything. They had caught a crab but it was too small to take home so instead we had a look at the crab before it was thrown back into the river. It was a male crab because it had a triangle on its bottom and we were shown how strong the crab actually was when he was given a empty can of Coke and totally destroyed it. After our tour we headed out to dinner and then came home to pack and get ready for our move to Brisbane tomorrow. After our packing we finished our visit by watching another cheesy film before heading to bed.
