My Big Adventure
Wow what a day! The day started with an earlyish get up so we could drive to Cairns to catch our ferry to Fitzroy Island. The drive took just under 2 hours but the roads are so easy to drive here it was a pretty easy journey. When we arrived we headed to book ourselves in on our tour only to discover that we had been booked on a speedboat tour which you couldn't go on if you had a bad back. And because mum has back issues this was obviously an issue so to cut a long story short we couldn't go to Fitzroy Island! So after a couple of phone calls the booking agent agreed that it had been falsely advertised and gave us our money back. By this time we had missed all the boats to Fitzroy so we headed across and booked ourselves onto a tour to Green Island. Once we had booked on the boat we had a quick coffee. When our boat arrived we took the 45 minute journey from Cairns to Green Island. It was a little bit choppy but generally ok. When we arrived at the island we had our lunch and then headed out to the beach. When we got to the beach we put on our snorkelling gear and headed out to do some swimming. This was the first time I had been snorkelling and I totally loved it. I also tried taking my action camera out with me but I'm not convinced the quality of the filming was any good but I will see when I get home. While I was swimming I saw a starfish, a Stingray, some coral and lots of grey/white fish in schools. After spending some time on the Reef and swallowing sea water (I'm not sure how this was possible with a snorkel but it is something I'm really quite skilled at when swimming), we headed back to shore for our glass bottomed boat tour. The glass bottomed boat was fabulous. You could see loads of different types of fish and we also got to see a sea turtle. After the boat trip we treated ourselves to an ice cream and explored the island a little more before catching the boat back to Cairns. We saw some more fish, this time a long greenie, blue fish with a long tubular nose, a little heron and some amazing Ospreys. When we got back to Cairns we started our journey home which was a little trickier than it would have been as it started to rain and the windscreen wipers on our car were more than useless so it took a lot of concentration to get us back to Lucy's! When we got back to Lucy's we had some dinner with her friend and then had a bit of a relax and planned for our last full day in Innisfail tomorrow. (There aren't many photos from today as they are hopefully on my action camera and will need to be added when I get home)
