My Big Adventure
This morning we got up and dressed and said goodbye to Lucy and the kids and our Australian home for the last few days and started our journey to Cairns. When we arrived in Cairns we went for a walk along the Esplanade where we saw a pelican sitting on the mud flaps and we also saw lots of crabs, little fish and some waders. After our walk along the front looking and around the lagoon we headed to a cafe for a milkshake and coffee before taking the short drive to drop the car back. Once we had returned the car we got our transfer to the airport. On the way to the airport we met some men who had been on healing retreat who then decided to 'heal' mum in the middle of the airport when we first arrived. When they asked if had I any ailments or pains I opted for the 'I'm fine thank you - no issues whatsoever'. Although maybe I will regret this if mum is miraculously healed in the morning. After being 'healed' we checked in our luggage and headed through security to wait in the lounge for our plane. Before catching our flight we looked around the shops (but didn't spend any money - go me)! After an hour or so we boarded our plane to Brisbane. Our flight was about an hour and half (quicker than it was supposed to be) and we were kept entertained by the onboard movies. Unfortunately I chose a film which was longer than the flight so I'm hoping it's on the plane to Sydney as I still have half an hour left! The landing was a little bit bumpy when we arrived in Brisbane but we all got off safely so it can't have been too bad. From the airport we caught our transfer and headed to our new home for the next few days the Mercure hotel King George Square. Originally we were supposed to be staying in a YHA in Brisbane but after our room in Melbourne we decided to treat ourselves and stay in an actual proper hotel and it was definitely worth it. Our room is amazing and it has a lovely view of King George Square. I think we probably appreciate the room much more since we have stayed in hostel for most of the trip and this seems like a fitting end to the most amazing holiday. After we had a little sort we headed out to explore Brisbane a little more. We ended up in the Queen Street Mall which had a really lovely feel to it and so far my impressions of Brisbane are all very positive and I'm looking forward to exploring the city more tomorrow. After our explore we headed back to our room and caught up with Reception and Year 1 on Skype and answered all their questions! We then had a quick bite to eat and a chill before heading to bed ready for our day of exploring tomorrow.
