My Big Adventure
Well I had a surprisingly good night's sleep in our rainforest cabin after I convinced myself the gap between the floor and door was big enough for a snake or spider to crawl through!! Thankfully this didn't happen and I survived a night in the rainforest!! So we got up this morning, had breakfast and headed down to the beach to see it one last time before we left. The tide was in so it was a rather shorter walk than we imagined. After our walk we headed back to the cabin collected our belongings and then set off on our journey to Port Douglas! Today I was the designated driver so we took the only road from Cape Tribulation towards Port Douglas through the long and winding roads. On the way we stopped off at Daintree Tea plantation and bought our very own Daintree Tea which was fully grown, picked and packed in Daintree. I found this really quite exciting!! I have made this sound a little more grand than it actually was as it is basically a canopy next to the tea field with some pictures and machinery and an honesty box. But still very exciting. From here we headed towards the ferry with a stop on the way to the Walu Wugirria lookout where we had the most amazing view. We then headed to the ferry and had a lovely view of the birds as we were crossing. After our crossing we made our way to Daintree village. From Daintree we headed to the Mossman Gorge where we were lucky enough to spot a kookaburra sitting on a fence in the creek. When we arrived we had some lunch and then took the shuttle bus to the gorge. When we arrived at the Gorge we took the walk through the rainforest and past the watering holes. People suggested that the watering hole would be an amazing place to swim - unfortunately it was too dangerous for swimming in today so funnily enough we didn't go in! As we walked through the rainforest the sounds were amazing (something we noticed yesterday but I forgot to say). The route we took was slightly off road at times but definitely worth every minute. We saw lots of amazing butterflies, a few birds and even a little black snake (possibly a red-bellied one)! Once we completed the route we caught the shuttle bus back to visitors centre and rewarded ourselves with a nice cold bottle of water! We then jumped back in the car and completed the journey to Port Douglas where we checked into our hotel. After a little chill and a refreshing shower we popped into Port Douglas via the lookout to get an amazing view over of the 4 mile beach and then we arrived in Port Douglas itself. The first thing we noticed was the immense noise coming from the trees in the middle of the road. Upon closer inspection it was filled with a few hundred lorikeets and other birds. So we took a little time looking at these and then explored Port Douglas a little more and made a visit to the beach. Then on the way to the restaurant for dinner we saw approximately 100 flying foxes making their way through the sky, they just kept on coming and didn't look like they were ever going to stop. We finally arrived at our restaurant for dinner which we both enjoyed before heading back to our hotel to decide what we wanted to do tomorrow.
