My Big Adventure
Today we had a bit of a lie in and then got up and breakfasted and heading out to explore Brisbane. First we headed to the Queen Street Mall to the information centre where we collected some maps so we could plan our journey. From here we headed back to City Hall just next to our hotel where we visited the museum of Brisbane. This was not quite as we had imagined so we didn't spend too long looking around before heading on to our next stop. We did however stop and make a star as part of a million stars to end violence campaign. From here we headed across the street and visited the Albert Street Uniting Church (the one we can see from our window) and had a little look around. We then walked to Anzac Square where we saw the Grand Central Hotel which was decorated in red, white and blue poppies in remembrance for Anzac Day. We also saw the Anzac memorial and flame. From Anzac Square we headed on to St. John's Cathedral which was based on the Truro Cathedral so it had a very British feel about it. Next we walked down to Customs House and then on to Eagle Street where we could see the Story Bridge (Brisbane's equivalent to Sydney Harbour Bridge - although to me there is no competition!). We then walked along the River Brisbane and stopped for a picnic lunch on the way and watched the Kookaburra Queen Paddle-steamer launch. From here we walked past the Botanical Gardens, past Parliament House, Old Governance House and the Queensland University of Technology to the Goodwill Bridge where we crossed the river to Southbank. I loved Southbank. We walked through the arbour and along the river to the lagoon which was really inviting with the different types of pools and the man-made beach. As it was so inviting we decided to have an ice cream and paddle our feet in the water. After our ice cream we continued our journey along the Southbank to the Museum of Art where we saw a mixture of Aboriginal, modern and traditional artwork. From here we had a quick look at the State Library and then headed across the Victoria Bridge back along Queen Street and back to where we started in Queen Street Mall. As we walked along we stopped and looked in a couple of shops and then made our way back to the hotel. When we got back we headed up to the 16th floor to see the pool, gym and rooftop bar and for some reason I thought it would be fun to visit the gym after walking around the whole of Brisbane. So I headed back to the room got changed and headed back to the gym for a little jog! We then headed out for some dinner (obviously I showered and changed first!). There was an event at the City Hall tonight with a red carpet and a couple of news crews out front. So we went to have a little look. After being a nosey we walked to the Pig 'N' Whistle, near the Story Bridge, an English themed pub with live music and after dinner we headed to the river to see the Story Bridge lit up. After this we headed back to the hotel to get ready for our day tomorrow.
