Day 12 - we finally got our swim in the Mediterranean today. We spent the morning at the beach in Sete and then drove through to Nimes. We wanted to go to the amphitheater but didn't have a street address to plug into the sat nav. We drove into the centre and then tried to follow the signs to the Arena or tourism office and quite by fluke we found it!
It's called Arenes de Nimes and is the best preserved amphitheatre in the world. It was built in 100 AD - quite mind boggling and probably the most exciting thing for me this trip. Unfortunately we couldn't get an audio guide as they were closing early to prepare for a rock concert. You will see the big stage in the photos - shame!
Then we had an uneventful drive to Avignon. This is probably the nicest hotel we have stayed at - not a Novetel or Mecure but you can tell the owners take pride in it. There's also a swimming pool which always goes now well in this family!
