This is channel country where the endless flood plains are brought to life when the Diamantina River floods and channels spread the water throughout a huge area. A big flood like in 2011 meant towns like Birdsville can be cut off for months. But the floods are always welcome as they breathe life into the parched soil. It's truly fascinating country and feels about as remote from city living as you can get!

Great camp sites in the park. A loop track gives a good taste of the clay pans, water holes, ruins etc.
