Bonjour all
We've had a lovely time staying at Cap D'Ail which is the next bay to Monaco, in a short 5 day flat sit. It's been really great to come back and explore more of Monaco (highly recommend it as a short break destination) and we have had a gorgeous black labrador to look after - she has been on all of the walks with us, and there have been plenty of those ! We have walked the Cap D'Ail seafront all the way to Monaco twice, it's about 3-4 km each way - the first time we went to the Monaco cathedral, where the graves of Prince Ranier and Princess Grace Kelly are, and the second time we went to the Cafe de Paris, which sits on the square with the famous Monte Carlo casino and people/car watched over a very expensive beer !
Monaco doesn't have an airport so you fly to Nice and can then drive along to Monaco, obviously the rich and famous are less likely to drive and so there is a helicopter service from the airport to the Monaco heliports - it's a lovely 7 minute flight along the coastline and right in front of the flat we are staying in, so we see a stream of helicopters coming past. There are 4 bases at the heliport - it was amazing to stand there and watch all the helicopters land, especially with all the fancy chauffered cars lined up to pick up their charges. Sadly, we didn't manage to spot a celebrity ! The cars are also incredible to see, ferraris are literally ten a penny, you get so used to seeing them - again no famous drivers though.
Today we walked up above Cap D'Ail, the roads are really winding and feature in many, many famous films - including Goldeneye and To Catch a Thief.
Tomorrow we move on, a 7 hour drive across to the Spanish border, one night at Figueres and then onto Barcelona where we will be back to camping again.
Love to you all x x
