Dobar Dan from Croatia (Hello)
Hope you are well ? We had a lovely and easy drive from Slovenia into Croatia and have just stayed 4 nights at the coastal resort of Vrsar on the Adriatic Sea. The campsite had it's own bay and 'beach' it was crazy paving with steps into the sea -James bravely ventured in but it was too cold for me and he didn't last too long. For a change, the campsite was really busy, it was of course half term but it gave a really good buzz to the place.
You could walk along the promenade into Vrsar itself, a pretty little fishing town, we had a lovely mussels lunch out yesterday there and I did a nice morning run along the front. The hotel next door offered free sauna / swimming pool etc so we also chilled out there one evening.
It's been lovely and sunny in the day but got much colder at night. Today we moved on and inland to the Plitvice Lakes National Park, we are staying here for a couple of nights in a little cabin.
The drive across today started along the coastal road which was really pretty, looking over the sea and through lots of touristy resorts - as we drove closer to the national park we noticed lots of villages with derelict buildings / new builds and realised we were travelling through part of the previous war zone - it was a very emotive route, we passed houses and signs with plenty of bullet holes, a lot of memorials to those who lost their lives, huge bomb craters and 'do not enter land mines' signs on either side of the road - it really brought the war back to our minds and we feel like we have driven a real through a real piece of history today.
