Zladvo (?!) from Slovenia
We had a long but amazing trip into Slovenia from Venice - we packed down in the morning mist and were off at 9am, we wanted to drive the Vrsic Pass in the north of Slovenia, and it was an amazing mountain drive - all the way up to 1600m, and back down - the sun was out, autumn colours were stunning and the roof was down - happy days ! We then found, some hours later, that our road was blocked and had to take a detour which was 20km on a gravel track - poor ol' car being bumped about. We finally arrived at the campsite in Ljubljana at 6pm, it was already dark and when we started to put the tent up, it was soaking wet inside and out and we still had to sort out dinner - cue 2 little grumpy people ! Never mind, we got it sorted out and things looked much brighter the next morning.
Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia but very compact - their marathon was on on the Sunday, so we saw part of that and had a great walk around the pedestrianised town, the city museum and the castle as well as some delicious cake and coffee. We had popped to the supermarket in the morning for something to bbq for dinner - the butcher was very helpful and spoke English, but 'no, he didn't have any lamb' (not good news for us two lamb fiends) but he had some chicken and some 'pig neck' hmmmm, we thought we'd give it a go and I managed to burn it to a cinder at which point it didn't taste too bad at all !
Today we have moved south the the pretty little fishing port of Piran - hotel tonight as there is nowhere to camp nearby - hence I finally have the internet. We're just off for a wander around now and will move to Croatia
