This morning we met Laille at the train station in Amersfoot. She's got accommodation booked in Amsterdam until Sunday morning, but is coming to stay with us for a couple of nights. We bought a snack at Smeggle which has traditional Dutch take aways. Then we caught the 102 bus back to clear water. From there we walked towards Heidi's house, or at least we thought we were going the right way. After about ten minutes Paul said that he wasn't sure if we were going the right way and that nothing looked familiar anymore. So we decided to ring Heidi and tried to explain where we thought we were. Heidi said she would drive down and meet us. By this time we had walked back the way we had came a little bit and sat down under the trees. When she found us she was almost laughing at us because we were only a couple of hundred metres from their home. We got Laille all settled in and showed her around the property. At 3.30 pm we left to go to a family BBQ. I was curious to see how a European BBQ would differ from a kiwi BBQ. It was pretty similar really. They used one of those small circular BBQs. One of the guys stood around cooking the meat, but there was also raw meat on the table inside incase you wanted to cook it yourself. Then there were also lots of salads, fresh bread and sauces on the table. I guess the only real difference was the different types of salad and meat that were cooked. They cooked chicken kebabs, kebabs that looked like they had pork crackling wrapped around them and meat patties. There were also small tin foil parcels with salmon marinated in garlic and herbs. We had a really nice dinner and sat around talking and eating from 4pm to 9pm. Then Frans rounded us all up and took us home. Paul and Heidi took bikes and rode home though. Paul wanted to pick up some smokes from the hotel and we had to drop his oma off at her sister's house so it worked out well.
