Made a new friend at breakfast in Prague who thought Heather looked like the band camp girl from American Pie! Then had a wet walk to the train station so got a bit soggy! Train journey fine (uneventful!) and arrived in Vienna at lunchtime. Hotel close to station again which is handy so checked in and then went out into the city centre to explore for the afternoon.
Had an interesting lunch (weird scrambled eggs by mistake and very strong coffee!) before starting with a bus tour of some of the main sights. Then went to Hofburg palace and Albertina state rooms and gallery for the rest of the day. Saw the state opera house and lots of horse and carriages!
Headed back to hotel then on recommendation tried an Austrian restaurant nearby. Was very nice - had a glass of Austrian wine and plum schnapps, and sampled plum strudel to be traditional!
Wednesday -
Had an early visit to Belvedere palace, then walked around Stadtpark and saw lots of statues of composers etc! Visited St.Stephens cathedral and Mozart's house museum where he lived and wrote some of his works.
Afternoon took a ride round a pretty park and went to Schonbrunn palace where we did a tour and went to an apple strudel show! Got a free sample and recipe to try at home!
Evening we had a posh 3 course dinner complete with canapés, sparkling wine and after dinner chocolates, then went to a concert in the Opera House performed by the Vienna Mozart Orchestra in costume! Lots of Mozart classics as well as some favourites!
Overall a very varied and cultured day!
