Day 43 31/07/2013
Melbourne-Broome-Barn Hill Station
If you haven't lost interest by now......you will see that I am back to blogging again!
After a couple of weeks touching base with family, we flew from chilly Melbourne, back to very sunny and very warm, Broome.
We picked up our vehicle and camper trailer and once we had re-provisioned we headed out of town. Farewell Broome!
We are travelling in the direction of Port Hedland. The road is called the Great Northern Highway, and although only one lane in each direction, it is a sealed road. The first part of our drive today was rather dull....flat, treeless country. We did see some cattle and a few water birds in low-lying areas which were still wet from some recent rain. After a while we passed through several kilometres of Acacia woodland. Since the flowers were in bloom, it was rather pretty.
We had decided not to go too far today and chose to camp at Barn Hill Station, which had been recommended to us by some fellow travellers. This Station was 10km off the main road, down a sandy track.
We took an unpowered site, mainly because there was more space. The campground was part of a working Brahman cattle property, although there were no cattle roaming amongst the caravans and tents etc........they were fenced off from that area! In fact we had to open and close three gates on our way in.
The campground overlooked the Indian Ocean and so we were once again treated to a WA sunset over water.
Wednesday night was BBQ night, with free entertainment! Nev and Joy, sang and played from 4pm to 8pm......mostly 50's and 60's music! Because of the two hour time difference between WA and the Eastern States, we were reading in bed by the time they finished!! It was a cool, but not cold, night.
