Well... it seemed me and Mike were a little to over excited about the fact that we had survived rafting with no "major" injuries, and perhaps a little stupid to think that with Mikes track record, such an extreme sport would leave him with no visits to the doctors or hospital!! So you are all wondering 'What the hell has he done now?'...I will explain in a bit!
So we got picked up form our hostel in Cairns by a small bus from the hostel we were staying in in Port Douglas for 2 days. It was free to which was even better! After driving around collecting other people we were all given a lolly (like Kids) for the journey, lol. The first half of the drive was dull but we were then back along the coast, winding around the side of cliffs. Our bus driver was slightly mental swinging the bus and trailer in tow around these sharp bends! We stopped halfway at a scenic lookout point to take some pictures and have a drink. We then stopped further along at a creek where there was a wild crocodile chilling on the bank. Everyone on the bus pulled out their massive professional cameras, so me and Miek made sure that everyone saw our super sonic digital 5 zoom digital camera, lol.
About 2 hours later we arrived at Dougies after being taken on a quick tour of the area so we knew where the town and beach was etc. Port Douglas is quite a small town by the beach. It is a wealthy area with some lush houses and hotels. Dougies is a 10 mintue walk from the beach and 15 mintue walk from the main street in town where there are lots of little shops and cafes. We are staying in a tent, we love it! In terms of tents its a premium one, lol. We have proper beds but low to the ground, a bedside table with a light either side and a fan as it gets so hot during the day! The tent has plenty of room for all our luggage and to stand up and move around in. Mike was given the task of finding us accomodation in Port Douglas and he did a very good job! Well done Watkins!! We would definately recommend staying at Dopugies, it has tents you can rent from them already erected, an area for your own tents, cmapervan sites and dorms. Its is a really good set up with an open plan kitchen/bar/living area/games room. There is also a pool, hammocks and lots of outdoor area to sit etc. One of our favourite backpackers so far!
After arriving and having lunch we walked into town and took a wander around the shops. we had some amazing thickshakes which were really good and then walked back. In the hour or so that we had gone out, Mikes elbow had swelled up loads from where he had banged it rafting.
