We left Bangkok on 4th November for Kanchanburi where we joined our little tour group. Our first stop was the Bridge over the River Kwai which was good to see and learn about the prisoners of war who were forced to build the bridge during WWII but they really need to review their health and safety procedures. Actually walked along the train line accross the bridge, which was full of holes and drops so had to concentrate when passing people so as to not fall into the river. We also literally had to run down the line when a train came again dodging the holes!
We then went to a tiger temple in afternnon. Its a non-profit organisation which is run by Buddist Monks who claim the tigers were monks in previous lives which is why they are so calm and tranquil. You will not believe the photos we had taken here! You were allowed to go up and sit and stroke the tigers whilst someone took your photo, it was mad. again health and safety issues were raised, but at here least they had the foresight to make you sign a form which declared if you were to be injured or mauled to death by the tigers you couldn't sue! At one point one of them growled so the one i was stroking decided to get up and have a look as to what was happening aarraagghhh, pooed my pants to say the least.
That night we stayed in a floating house on the river Kwai. It was crazy, honestly you would have laughed at how funny it was we are so pathetic! It was a Thai festival so we were given little boats made of flowers and lit candles and sent them down the river to thank the goddess of the river for being good to us (or something). It was intresting though the whole village was involved and there were fireworks and celebrations. Afterwards our tour guide took us to a nearby temple to continue the partying. The locals found us all very amusing and me and Kat even had little girls pointing and lauging at us (as usual). The party continued at a bar in the middle of the jungle our guide took us to where he got pissed and sang on the karaoke (in Thai of course) all night, we all just sat there in disbelief at the randomness of it all!
Next day we went to Erawan Waterfalls, a stunning national park made up of seven tiers of waterfalls, but being lazy and unfit me and kat only made it to the fourth. It was so unbelievably beautiful just like the herbal essence commercial where she washes her hair in the jungle, absolutely breath taking. At the fourth tier there were some rocks which all these little Thai kids were sliding down so been a daredevil (or stupid) I thought I'd give it a go while Kat watched from the edge (although she was battered and bruised after just falling in back pack and all into a nearby river trying to recover her plastic water bottle I was crying with laughter at her!). Anyway big mistake sliding in.... I ripped my bikini bottoms on the way down! Not good obviously, then when dropped in the water loads of fish started biting me which totally freaked me out. Not happy at all... So after doing the dirty dancing moves on a log (got to be done) we decided to stay safe and paddle.
In the afternoon we were joined by our new group and went to this boring railway thing called Hells Pass. I'm sure it was really intresting about POWs and their suffering and torture at having to build the Burma Railway in obscene conditions, but Kat was leading the way and decided to take all the group on a little detour. We walked for ages up hill in scorching heat, literally 40 degrees with 90% humidity (well maybe not, but nearly). I don't think anyone was very happy with her!
That night had such a laugh on the floating house. Stayed up with all our group getting drunk on good old Chang and bitten to death by mosquitos.
On the 6th we went bamboo rafting down the river, which looked pretty minging to be honest so refused to go swimming, followed by elephant riding which was very weird but they were so cute.
Got the bus back to Bangkok and then straight on a 15 hour train to Chang Mai where we are now. Train was cool though we were really excited as had little bunk beds to sleep on. We have just been for a wonder and a thai massage (well it would be rude not to for about 1 quid for an hour!). Tomorrow we are off trekking into the jungle (NOOOOOO!!!) so expect there will be more waterfalls and elephants etc. Will update again when get back into Chang Mai and will try and upload some photos.
P.s. thanks for all the messages guys
