So much has happened since last updated don't know where to start.
Well we went looking for a camera yesterday afternoon in the numerous malls of Bangkok. You wouldn't believe the scale of these places and there are so many all interconnecting one after another. It was really cool though, very trendy and kitsch not like you'd imagine at all but couldn't get a bloody digital camera anywhere. Honestly had 5 floors of mobile phones in this one mall with thousands and thousands of phones to choose from but no camera so gave up and wondered around until we were hijacked by this Thai woman who wouldn't shut up! She was been genuinely nice giving us info and advice but we couldn't get away. Thirty minutes later managed to shake her off only to find another friendly Thai who wanted to talk.... ended up taking her advice (seemed shocked we hadn't booked anything for our trip and were just going with the flow) so got a tuk tuk to the tourist info. We booked all our transport etc for Thailand so know what we're doing now for a few weeks. Whilst we were in there we saw two girls from Leeds who were on our flight and were also sent there by some over helpful Thai. Turns out we've booked more or less the same things. Even staying in the same hostel in Sydney! So after about 2 hours (seriously) we were suprised to see our tuk tuk driver had waited outside (bless him) so gave him 100 baht, which is about £1.12 and he took us to the most gorgeous restaurant ever. We were the only foreigners in the restaurant and of course no-one spoke any English so we proceeded to make complete arses of ourselves by generally not having a clue what we were doing and ordering vast quantities of food. I ordered the Green Curry and Kat ordered the Tom Yung which were both enough to feed a small army but were absolutely gorgeous and I'm now officially in love with thai food. Needless to say we gave the staff a good laugh but we still enjoyed ourselves.
Today we got up and went to the weekend market at Chatchuk. We managed to find a tuk tuk to take us for 20 baht which we thought was such a bargain, how wrong we were. The fat b****** said to us, "ladies, you go to shop for specail promotion look round and i get petrol voucher then we go" ok doesn't sound too bad does it so we agreed... what a mistake. He took us to these cheesy tailors with loads of crap clothes he tried to flog us. It was hilarious, photos cut out off next catalogues dated 1993 which he told us could make to measure for us, "you need dress, very nice? You need trouser? Always need trousers"....mmmm no thanks mate. So after the second tailors when they took us upstairs to some dodgy back room and obviously tried to intimidate us into spending our hard earned bahts, we felt we could no longer browse through crappy catalalogues, we put our foot down and demanded the tuk tuk driver take us to the market.
So we eventually arrived at the market and felt sick by various stinky Thais and the hot smelly stalls. They sold literally everything from clothes to chickens and everything in between except digital cameras. So we got on the uber effecient sky train to Tesco. Good old Tesco pulled through and we got a cheap camera and I got some perscription sunglasses ala frank butcher for 40 quid and he fixed my other glasses.
Tonight we've just been to Patpong to see the famous lady boys and ping pong shows (well actually we didn't see a ping pong show but we should have as sounds hilarious). Afterwards we decided we fancied a nice meal and drink. There were hundreds of bars and restaurants around but decided upon this nice looking trendy bar. It did occur to us at first that it was strange we were only women in the whole bar but hey the music was good, the beer was cold and the waiter was so lovely so we stayed. A bit later I finally noticed the abundance of the old white western men with young thai men and it clicked... we were in the most popular gay bar in patpong! But they loved us so stayed and had a gorgeous meal, ate loads of popcorn and even learnt some Thai phrases.
Anyway off to Kanchuburi tomorrow for 2 nights where we're staying on a houseboat on the River Kwai so should be fun but getting picked up at 7am!!!!!!
