Haven't updated this in a while mainly because we've been so busy over the last few days. Arrived in Koh Tao on Wednesday and booked a four day PADI open water scuba diving course. Basically Koh Tao is renowned for its scuba diving, its supposed to be some of the best in the world and is also the cheapest place to learn to dive.
So on Thursday we had to study. We spent all day in the classroom learning the basics behind diving and all the science and stuff which is not easy when you didn't get in til 5 from the previous night (found this cool little bar on the beach again and just couldn't drag ourselves away from those buckets!). The next morning we were up early again for a session in the pool (had an early night so wasn't too bad). It was so weird breathing under water. I freaked out a little at first as just found it so strange and wanted to swim to the surface but we both finally got the hang of it and learnt loads of skills like clearing water from your mask, taking your mask off and putting it on again, removing your regulator and sharing air etc. That afternoon we had some more classwork and then a final exam before we could head out into open water!
So on Sat we went out for 2 dives in the ocean. It was amazing but had to concentrate quite a lot but on the final day we went out for a further 2 dives and because we'd finally got the hang of it managed to see loads more stuff. There were scorpian fish which are apparently really dangerous and sharks below us! So now we are qualified PADI divers so can dive anywhere in the world up to 18m. It was a fantastic experience and think we're going to do a few more dives before we leave Thailand as its so cheap here.
Just waiting for the boat at the moment to take us to Koh Phangan where we are going to get our full moon on yeah!
