Hello so here we are in Phuket. We left Chiang Mai on Sunday and had a long overnight bus ride to Bangkok where we arrived early hours of Monday morning (so early nothing was open so had to sleep in train station for 2 hours... oh the travelling life is so glamourous!). The bus ride was ok I didn't sleep too much as was scared of mossies (they seem to love me). So decided to fashion a nice ensemble to keep them away, it invoved long trousers, socks with flip flops, a hoody zipped up with the hood up and even an eye mask on so the only area exposed was my mouth... needless to say i was too hot to even think about sleeping. Kat meanwhile was too busy trying to elevate her twisted ankle (thanks for advice on that one Chloe) and eating the not so delicious sweet pork croissants (mmmmmm! ha ha).
In Bangkok decided we need to see the Grand Palace and the Wat Po. Two of the best known sites of Bangkok which so far we have managed miss due to camara shopping and public holidays and generally not been organised. So headed off to Koh San for breakfast and Kat was going to phone a friend of her dads so we could meet for lunch. Whilst we were working out how to use the phone (which is no easy task here) Kat had her purse stolen! This isn't as bad as it sounds really we weren't mugged or anything but there are loads of thieves in that area due to the amount of tourists around and at some point she either put it down and someone picked it up straight away or someone took it from her pocket as it was quite obvious. We were both gutted... only been here 2 weeks and were just saying how safe we had felt at all times. But now we are more on guard! The police were no help (apparently we were the 10th traveller in that morning and it was only 09:00... think everyones out to scam insurance!) but we cancelled cards etc and went to hsbc to get some emergency cash out. Kats dads mate was a great help he really looked after us, gave us a gorgeous apartment to hang out in whilst we waited for our train, took us for lunch and was generally a star. Think it made kat feel a whole lot better anyway.
So after that ordeal got the overnight train to Surat Thani and then a 4 hour bus ride to Phuket and we arrived Tuesday after 2 days of travelling! Its so nice here. A little touristy perhaps (probably their equivilant to Benidorm) and prices are a little bit more expensive than Bangkok and Chiang Mai but the beach is so beautiful. Granted its the first one I've seen outside of Europe so far but is the nicest ever. So clean and warm and perfect... a little too many people on it maybe but I'm sure we'll find our perfect deserted beach soon. There are loads of bars and British people so a bit like been on holiday really except a lot cheaper than anywhere I've ever been before.
We've got one more night here then on Friday we're getting the ferry to Koh Phi Phi this looks amazing. Its where 'The Beach' was filmed so expecting Leonardo Dicaprio to meet us at the pier ha ha.
