Well its official Singapore is fantastic FACT! Its so cool here, everything is smart, modern, clean and super effcient. They have strict rules like no chewing gum, no jay walking, no littering (very strict penalties for this), no eating or drinking on the subway etc but it all works so well and makes the city so clean and cool. The transport system is amazing, fantasic MRT network that will take you all over the city in a matter of minutes for a few dollars. Its a little bit more expensive than some Asian cities but still cheap compared to home. The reason is everythings so heavily taxed (especially alcohol) but it allows them to create this amazing city.
So our first day in Singapore was Thursday. We decided to head to the zoo as everyone spoke very highly of it. We were not disappointed. It was absolutely excellent (sorry I'm running out of words to say how amazing everything is!). There are very few cages just enormous enclosures and habitats which are built to make it look like the animals are free to roam around but there were discreet ditches and moats and fences out of eye sight (although the monkeys did just seem to have free reign and were swinging around everywhere). And it was the little details that made it, it was like Disneyland or something, they dont do things by halves here... they also dont do the weather by halves either and by mid afternoon the moonsoon reared its head again and it poured down but we carried on regardless in our macs looking really cool (surprisingly everyone else took cover but its only a bit of water come on we're from Leeds!)
That night we chilled out in our hostel and then a bunch of us headed down to Boat Quay a flashy redeveloped waterfront area with bars and stuff but by the time we rolled up it had mainly closed except a few karoke bars so we just sat at a dodgy cafe drinking.
On Friday afternoon when we'd recovered we headed down to Orchard Road. This was just mile after mile off shopping malls and centres (think a super modern Oxford Street or something) and just had a wonder around the city taking in the sights.
Friday night we visited the Night Safari. This was part of the zoo and i thought was absolutely brilliant (don't know if Kat was feeling it as much as me though!). First off we got on a tram which took us around the park. It was a bit like Jurrassic Park (minus the dinosaurs of course) it was actually a bit scary rhinos and lions and stuff were metres from your car in the dark! I just kept imagining getting stuck or something and was actually a bit scared ha ha but again there were concealed ditches and fences so we were 'apparently' safe. There was also a walk after which was even scarier ha ha. Walking through dark paths in the middle of a rainforest and just stumbling accross tigers and bats and stuff weird! Would definately recommend to anyone visiting Singapore.
Today was our last day in Singapore (boo!) and we went to Sentosa Island. This is like touristy island full of attractions and stuff. Was good fun and well made (well it is Singapore only the best) with loads to see but had to pay for most stuff so could imagine if you had loads of money would be excellent. We hung out at the man made beach which was a lovely break but got sunburnt (how gay!). We also went on this luge ride thing which was awesome... we rocked ha ha. Overtook all these gay Chinese men who were scared ha ha, not feeling the queues though. We also went on this cinema simulator ride thing (like a poor mans Star Tours) was clever. though. My main gripe with Sentosa though was the size. Why? No need took bloody ages to get anywhere and far too hot to be bothered... but was good to much about and take in the coolness of Singapore.
So we decided not to have a Singapore sling at the Raffles, mainly because its too expensive but also I don't have any shoes! Only have flip flops after lost my trainers in Chiang Mai. But we've been assured it something you can live with out experiencing.
Got a flight in the morning to Sydney woo hoo roll on the surfing! xxx
